Xbox May Rethink Game Pass Pricing, Claims a Report
Asha Sharma recently stepped in as the new head of Xbox, and she is already looking at ways to shake things up. According to a fresh report from The Information, Sharma is actively exploring how to make Xbox Game Pass and future hardware more appealing to a wider audience.
This early strategy might involve rethinking the current pricing model and introducing new, lower-priced subscription tiers for gamers who want access without breaking the bank.
The news brings a fresh look at subscription costs
The report points out that Sharma wants to win over new players who might be sitting on the fence. To do this, Xbox might offer cheaper ways to access its massive game library. While there are no official details confirming exactly what these tiers will look like, rumors have circulated for a while about a possible ad-supported version of Game Pass.
A lower price point could easily draw in those who find the current monthly cost a bit too high, especially when fans just want to play games without paying for extra perks.
Since Game Pass prices have historically only gone up, adding a cheaper tier would be a welcome change for many console and PC owners.
The company is also exploring future bundles with Netflix
Interestingly, the same report mentions that Sharma has been talking directly with Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters. The two executives reportedly discussed the idea of offering subscription bundles together down the road. Right now, there are no concrete plans in place, but Peters noted he is completely open to the possibility if it works for both the companies and the consumers.
Sharma is still settling into her CEO role at Microsoft Gaming, so it makes sense that she is actively reviewing every option on the table.
Fans will just have to wait and see which of these early brainstorming ideas actually becomes a reality.
