Xbox Reportedly Responds to Wild Game Pass Shake-Up Rumor

Xbox has finally responded to the wild Game Pass rumor that surfaced this week, and the company is making one thing clear. No changes to the service have been finalized, while previously announced games coming to Game Pass Ultimate on day one is not being affected by the rumored plans. Forbes reporter Paul Tassi says that he received the statement directly from an Xbox spokesperson.

The response comes after a wild rumor originated from ResetEra claimed that Microsoft could be preparing a major Xbox Game Pass restructuring for 2027. The claims included cheaper subscription tiers with ads, changes to cloud gaming, a separate multiplayer option, a family add-on and, most notably, an end to day-one game releases on the service. We reported on the claims earlier this week, while stressing that the information was unconfirmed.

Xbox’s response to Tassi was carefully worded. Here’s what it reads:

We regularly test different Game Pass offerings and look at what works best for players in different markets. We don’t have any changes to announce today or plans that have been finalized. There are no changes to previously announced games coming to Game Pass Ultimate on day one.

That means the rumored subscription changes shouldn’t be treated as confirmed plans. Microsoft is acknowledging that it regularly tests different Game Pass offerings, but it hasn’t announced a new pricing structure or confirmed that the rumored features are coming.

The official wording does leave some room for future changes. Tassi himself pointed out that Microsoft specifically referred to “previously announced games,” rather than saying day-one releases will remain unchanged indefinitely.

For now, however, there is no confirmed plan to remove day-one games from Game Pass Ultimate. The rumored 2027 overhaul, including ads, separate cloud access and new subscription options, remains unconfirmed.
