Xbox Will Decide Whether PHYSINT Remains Exclusive or Goes Multiplatform
The future of PHYSINT on PlayStation is still up in the air, and surprisingly, even Hideo Kojima doesn’t know where the game will eventually launch. In a new IGN interview, Kojima was directly asked whether PHYSINT would still come to PlayStation now that Xbox has taken over as the game’s publishing partner. His answer was simple. He said he doesn’t know, adding that the question would ultimately have to be answered by Xbox.
PHYSINT’s platform support now remains in Xbox’s Hands
Kojima pointed to Microsoft’s recent approach of releasing some first-party games across multiple platforms. He said he believes Xbox wants to reach as many gamers as possible, regardless of the platform, but stressed that the final plans for PHYSINT have not been decided. It may also be possible that PHYSINT could remain an exclusive on Xbox. Here’s the question and response by Kojima when asked about it:
IGN: Xbox first-party games are sometimes also multiplatform. Will Physint still come out on PlayStation?
Hideo Kojima: I don’t know the answer to that – that would be a question for Xbox. But I don’t know for sure. In previous updates from Xbox, I thought that they have this kind of stance where they want to deliver to as many gamers as possible, no matter what the platform is. I think all of that will be announced at a later time. I’m not sure yet, and I can’t really say.
That makes PHYSINT’s platform situation interesting. The game originally had a relationship with PlayStation, but Sony later stepped away from it. Kojima said the decision came during a June meeting and left him shocked, with the developer subsequently approaching Xbox with a new pitch for the game.
Xbox responded positively to the pitch and is now working with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT. For PlayStation fans, that means there is no confirmed PS5 or future PlayStation release to point to right now, but there is also no confirmation that PHYSINT has been permanently ruled out on PlayStation. The final platform plans are expected to be revealed later.
