Microsoft 365 Chat is being replaced with the new Copilot experience in Microsoft Teams, as announced by the Redmond-based tech giant earlier today. The AI tool was released to the platform in November 2023, as a way for Teams users to communicate with.
Similarly to Bing, and Copilot for Windows, Microsoft 365 Chat provided solutions for tasks requested by users, and virtually it was no different from them.
However, it was quite clear that Microsoft wanted to rename all of its AI tools under a single name, so eventually Bing Chat became Copilot, and now Microsoft 365 Chat becomes Copilot, as well.
Microsoft says users should worry: the functionalities, as we mentioned, will stay the same, however, Teams will now display the Copilot icon on the platform.
The new Copilot experience is an improved version of the Copilot app in Teams that you may have used before (formerly known as Microsoft 365 Chat). It offers the same functionality and content access as the current app, but with additional benefits.

And yes, the new Copilot experience in Teams, also comes with benefits, including:
- Better prompts, including details specific to you like the people you work with, your meetings, and your files.
- Ability to see your Copilot chat history.
- Access to a library of prompts via Copilot Lab.
The new benefits include the ability to see the entire Copilot chat history, but it will be interesting to see if Teams users will be able to access the Copilot chat history on Windows devices, for example.
We’re saying this because a while ago, Microsoft said that Windows Copilot would soon become the hub for all Microsoft Copilots out there, including Copilot for Microsoft 365.
We don’t know if this includes Copilot for Teams, as well, but most likely Teams users won’t be able to access the chat history for their Windows Copilot, and vice-versa, as sensitive information can be at risk.
However, it might be interesting to see if Microsoft thinks about it this way.
