Microsoft tries to integrate Copilot everywhere, and the newest feature, which allows it to read your files, shows it. Additionally, you can find AI in most of their apps and services, such as Microsoft 365, Outlook, and OneDrive. As if having it everywhere wasn’t enough, the company faces lawsuits for data harvesting. Yet, there are good parts to having an AI assistant that knows everything.
Does Copilot collect your data?
The new feature lets Copilot collect your data and read your files, and Microsoft won’t share it with third parties unless you agree. However, you may have agreed to their Terms and Conditions. The company is one of many that have access to your data. Many other applications require your approval to access and use your information and tools. So, before you think of what AI does after reading your files and private data, concentrate on the positive side.
The new feature allows Copilot to read your files. The virtual assistant can then use everything it learns to help you. For example, it can send emails and look for files faster than the search option. Another great feature is that it can summarize your files. Thus, it’s great if you are in a hurry. Also, you can use the AI to verify the source of emails to avoid threat actors. To access this feature, you will have to opt in.
If you allow Copilot to read your OneDrive files, the AI assistant can access data about your work and business. Afterward, if you are good at generating prompts, it can summarize information in various ways. For example, it can answer questions about your business.
As you can see, letting Copilot read your data has many benefits. However, there are some negative aspects. Microsoft can access your data freely, and inventive people could use the chatbot to steal your data. Overall, if you do not fear for your data, the feature that allows Copilot to read your files will help you greatly.
What are your thoughts? Are you going to opt in and let Copilot assist you? Let us know in the comments.
