Closing the app gap is a problem talked about so much that most people are probably sick of it. Luckily there’s a video out by David Burela that can give Windows fans a bit of hope. The video shows him porting an app using iOS source code to Windows in literally under five minutes.

The folks over at WMPU spotted his video and it’s picked up some buzz, and rightfully so, across the Windows community. The app he ports is Canabalt, an endless runner that’s admittedly a simple app compared to what some developers will have to port. He discusses this more in his blog.

Burela goes through step by step in the video above on how to port code as well as how to edit it once it’s within a Windows app.

Obviously some apps will take more time than this, and to polish an app to be production ready takes more than five minutes but this is a strong proof of concept of Microsoft’s Project Islandwood in action.
