Microsoft Editor in Word will help you be more original with new Similarity Checker tool

Microsoft is rolling out a new Similarity Checker feature in Word that should help you improve your writing style. This a part of the new Microsoft Editor feature that Microsoft announced during its Microsoft 365 event in March, and the Similarity Checker will roll out first to Microsoft 365 Education subscribers before Microsoft 365 Home and Business get it later.

The Bing-powered Similarity Checker facilitates students and working professionals by showing them how much content in their document is original, and makes it easier to insert citations accordingly. “This can aid writers in focusing less on the mechanics of writing, and more on the content,” explained Mike Tholfsen from the Microsoft Education team.

Overall, Similarity Checker should help students to avoid plagiarism, but Microsoft emphasized that it should help them in their future career as well. “Coupling similarity detection with citation tools presents an opportunity to provide guidance when it will be most effective to improve writing outcomes,” explained Tholfsen.
