Windows 11’s August update ends SSD slowdown woes, but not for all

Slow NVMe SSD performance issues have plagued Windows 11 since March 2023; something similar happened a couple of years ago. The problem was traced back to the March 2023 Patch Tuesday update, but Microsoft remained quiet.
There are reports that some users have noticed enhancements after installing the optional update in July 2023. It has also been stated that the August 2023 Patch Tuesday update (KB5029263) has resolved the SSD issue for most users. However, certainly, this doesn’t apply to all. Thus, some users have experienced over a 50% decrease in speed, as they had previously reported.
The affected updates include:
- KB5028185 – July 2023 Patch Tuesday update (mandatory).
- KB5027303 – June 2023 optional update.
- KB5027231 – June 2023 Patch Tuesday (mandatory).
- KB5026372 – May 2023 Patch Tuesday (mandatory).
- KB5025239 – April 2023 Patch Tuesday (mandatory).
- KB5023778 – March 2023 Patch Tuesday (issue originated here).
- KB5023706 is also affected.
The other possible concern seems to be that despite the various issues and changes, Microsoft hasn’t received public acknowledgment regarding these matters. This might be a concern for users seeking transparency and communication from the company about updates, fixes, and issues.
