Read receipts revolutionized communication enabling you on the other end to tell whether your sent message has been opened. However, for one social app, Discord, this is a dream yet to come true.

Can you see if someone has read your message on Discord?

There is no native way to tell whether someone has read your message on Discord. It’s a bummer but it also has its disadvantages for users who do not wish this information to be public.

Still, there are some subtle tell-tale signs that can help ease your mind. Observing these actions can help you conclude that your message has been received on the other end.

  • Active status – If the user is active, they may have read your message. However, this is not a very accurate metric because some users may be online but not active per se.
  • User typing – If the recipient of the message has a typing status just next to their name, it is a positive that they have read yours and are currently composing a response.
  • Reactions – If the user reacts to your message with an emoji, it means they’ve read it. You can also react to theirs as a reminder but if you can’t, they’ve probably blocked your Discord message.

How do you know if someone ignores you on Discord?

  • Delayed response – If you sent the person on the other end a message a long time ago and they are taking their sweet time to respond, it could be that they are ignoring you.
  • Online status – If the person has not been online for a prolonged period of time, then they are not ignoring you. Their Discord account could’ve been banned or suspended for all you know. However, if they’ve been online a couple of times since you sent a message and they are yet to respond, chances are that you are being ignored.
  • Server interactionsDiscord has public servers and channels where you and your friend could be part of. If they’re engaging on the server but not responding to your messages, then you’re definitely being ignored.

Read receipts is a feature that Discord users have been raving about for years but it seems the developers are not too keen to include it.

Luckily, being an open-source app, fans can explore a read receipt bot or include a functionality that would inform one that your message has been read as long as it doesn’t go against the Discord guidelines.

Although Discord has no read receipts, you can try other social apps that do have read receipts. You can always message your friends there if it gives you peace of mind.

While still here, perhaps hiding games you’re playing on Discord may be fun. This comes in handy if you’re learning to play a new game and don’t want your friends challenging you.

You can also create a Discord rules channel but while you’re at it, take precautions. There are a lot of cyberhackers so you need to avoid being hacked on Discord.
