Don't tell your parents about this free AI Reading Coach by Microsoft this summer

Microsoft has recently launched an AI Reading Coach, a free and standalone AI-powered app that is developed to make reading fun this summer.

The aim is to provide personalized and consistent reading fluency practice and make learners productive this summer.

One of the main features of Reading Coach is to generate unique stories for each individual using AI. Now, you might be thinking about how to ensure that your kid is reading a story appropriate to their age.

For that, Microsoft has mentioned:

The AI-generated story is moderated for content quality, safety, and age appropriateness according to Microsoft’s Responsible AI guidelines.

What can AI Reading Coach do?

Here is what you can try:

  • AI-generated stories: Learners can navigate the story chapters, unlock characters and settings to compose new stories, and add depth and variety to the storytelling experience.
  • Leveled library: The library contains fiction and nonfiction passages sorted by difficulty level, allowing learners to choose content that suits their reading level and interests.
  • Immersive Reader: A fully accessible reading tool that gives a comfortable reading experience for all learners, with features including customized font sizes, background colors, and text-to-speech.
  • Coaching on challenging words: The AI reading coach can help improve vocabulary and comprehension skills by assisting with difficult words using definitions, contextual explanations, or pronunciation guides.
  • User-generated content: Learners can add their content to read, allowing them to personalize the platform as per their liking
  • Rewards: Earn badges as you achieve milestones or display proficiency in the learning areas. You can also track your progress to see your development over time.

How it works?

  • Go to this website: https://coach.microsoft.com
  • Click on the Start reading button.
  • You will be prompted to sign in using your Microsoft personal account or with your school login (if your school admins have Reading Coach enabled for your account)
  • Click on Create a Story, Read a Passage, or Add a Passage to get started on your learning journey.

To use AI Reading Coach, you need to log in with your Microsoft personal account or create a new one. You can open the website on any of your favorite browsers or use its Windows application.

If you want to use a Microsoft account provided by your school, ensure the IT administrators of your school have enabled the app by signing up for the preview and following the instructions. Once done, you can access Reading Coach using your school account.

Have you tried using the new AI Reading Coach app? If yes, share your experience with our readers in the comments section below.
