Imagine being curious about the experience of pushing gaming boundaries on more affordable consoles. Well, gamers have discovered a method to improve their time with Bethesda’s Starfield on Xbox Series S.
This device is usually fixed at 30 FPS, but now it can reach 60 or even 120 FPS in Starfield on Xbox Series S. The question arises: You might have to make a trade-off regarding visual quality.Â
This could mean losing some details, like the richness of landscapes, and being content with decreased resolution. Nevertheless, for certain people, gameplay is more important than graphics.
Starfield was set free in September 2023, and it started its trip with many different feelings from fans and reviewers. A procedural generation made the game’s big universe, and missing features like a 60 FPS setting for Xbox Series X/S left players wanting more.Â
Bethesda took the feedback seriously and released updates that improved in-game life quality. They also introduced support for higher frame rates on Xbox Series X. However, the Series S was forgotten, and fans decided to do it themselves.
Step into the realm of mods. In a YouTube video shared by Fuzion Xbox Testing, you can see how seven Console Mods from Creation Club are used on an Xbox Series S to achieve higher frame rates, such as 60 FPS.
These mods include one that removes the game’s FPS cap and another that removes grass, enabling a more seamless gaming experience. However, the visual quality suffers as it becomes blurry and less detailed. However, for gameplay, there is an improvement in smoothness when moving around—particularly when you are exploring on foot.
However, if we increase the frame rate to 120 FPS, then the Series S and game optimization show their limits with performance not being steady, especially in scenes set in space.
This is a balance of appearance and performance, yet for those desiring that super smooth frame rate, it’s a deal they could accept.
This way of fixing the issue makes one wonder: Is it possible for Bethesda to officially provide such options in a later update? Certainly, playing Starfield at a lower resolution might not be what the developer initially intended.Â
However, this workaround from the modding community shows how much people desire flexibility in their gaming experience. Even as we break away from the usual limits set by publishers or developers, mods have shown once more that they are useful for tailoring gameplay to individuals’ tastes.
