You'll be able to have Copilot rewrite parts of your emails in classic Outlook

Even though the new Outlook for Windows will be generally available to all users by August 1st, 2024, Microsoft is still updating the classic Outlook with fresh features.

A while ago, the Redmond-based tech giant added Copilot to classic Outlook, effectively bringing AI capabilities to all those users who don’t want to try the new version of the popular emailing app.

However, it seems that Microsoft won’t stop here. The company will enhance Copilot in classic Outlook to select and rewrite specific pieces of text in an email.

According to the latest entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, this new enhancement will be added to classic Outlook in November. Still, a preview will be available for classic Outlook users in October 2024.

What exactly does this enhancement do?

Well, when composing an email, users can select portions of texts and use Copilot to rewrite them. The AI model will consider your prompts and rewrite those passages as best it can while modifying tone and length to suit your style.

In classic Outlook for Windows, when composing an email, customers can select portions of text in an email and use Copilot to rewrite it. Users can give detailed instructions on how to rewrite and also able to modify tone and length.

The classic Outlook will still be around for a while, although it’s hard to know when it will be deprecated. We thought it would be deprecated in 2025, but Microsoft has other plans.

Until then, Copilot, which already has this capability in the new Outlook, will continue to be updated in the classic version.
