Age of Mythology Immortal Pillars

Last week, the team behind Age of Mythology: Retold—Immortal Pillars unveiled the artwork and design for the expansion’s Four Perils, which are the game’s ‘bad’ mythic creatures.

This week, it’s turn for the good guys to show up, and the four Auspicious Beasts, as they’re called, are, once again, a marvel of design and talent.

The four mythic creatures are inspired by Chinese mythology but with a unique twist. Plus, as the team says in the official blog post, they are some of the strongest units in the game.

The first of the four Auspicious Beasts is Baihu, which is a wingless tiger (its evil twin, Qiongqi, has wings), with a white-silver color, and a special ability called Sweeping Maul that immobilizes units and deals damage to them. The unit is available to recruit when reaching the Heroic Age and is similar in power to the Nemean Lion.

The second of the four Auspicious Beasts is Xuanwu, a water unit capable of walking on land. A turtle with a snake as its sidekick, Xuanwu is available to recruit when reaching the Mythic Age, and it’s one of the longest-living units in the game, able to withstand vast amounts of damage.

The third of the four Auspicious Beasts is Qinglong, a classic serpent-like Chinese dragon that can fly across the battlefield and unleash torrents of water that damage multiple units at once. The creature is available when reaching the Mythic Age. Despite its strong attacks, Qinglong is vulnerable to attacks.

Finally, Zhuque is the fourth Auspicious Beast, basically the Chinese Phoenix. Described as a fiery beast, this flying mythic creature has flames all over its body, and aside from its offensive abilities, it also has defensive capabilities, which can heal and increase the armor of its allies. Zhuque is available when reaching Mythic Age.

Age of Mythology: Retold – Immortal Pillars is coming on March 4th, and everyone who owns the Premium version of the game will get it for free.
