AMD has officially expanded FSR Upscaling 4.1 support to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, Ryzen AI processors, and gaming handhelds, bringing the technology to older hardware ahead of schedule.

The expansion arrives with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1, released on October 20, 2026. AMD originally planned to introduce RDNA 2 support in early 2027.

Radeon RX 6000 GPUs finally get FSR 4.1

The update adds FSR 4.1 support to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, ranging from the RX 6900 series to the entry-level RX 6400.

AMD reworked its machine learning model and optimized FSR 4.1 to run on older RDNA 2 hardware. The company demonstrated the technology running at 4K on a Radeon RX 6800 XT but did not disclose performance figures.

Ryzen AI processors and gaming handhelds also benefit

FSR 4.1 now supports integrated Radeon graphics in Ryzen AI Max 300/400 and Ryzen AI 9 300/400 processors, including Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo platforms.

AMD claims FSR 4.1 Performance mode delivers better image quality than FSR 3.1 at higher-quality settings while maintaining over 60 FPS in its 1440p demonstration.

For less powerful integrated GPUs, AMD developed a lightweight AI model that measures less than half the size of the original M8 model.

This version targets Ryzen 9 laptops and gaming handhelds featuring Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Z2 A processors. AMD also plans to expand APU support further.

ASUS has confirmed plans to bring FSR 4.1 to ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, ROG Flow Z13, and TUF A14 laptops.

While Radeon RX 6000 and supported Ryzen AI users can access FSR 4.1 through Adrenalin 26.10.1, handheld owners will need updated drivers from their device manufacturers.

In other news, Microsoft may launch cheaper Surface PCs, fueling AMD Sound Wave Arm APU rumors, while a recent leak suggests the NVIDIA RTX 6060 may not arrive until 2029. But that’s not all from AMD, as the FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox as well.
