Microsoft's June 2026 Patch Tuesday causes DHCP Server issues—Fix incoming
Many users are facing the issue
Just a week after Microsoft’s June 10 Patch Tuesday rollout, IT admins are reporting a serious issue with the DHCP Server on Windows Server editions. Systems running the latest cumulative updates—including Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025—are experiencing intermittent DHCP service stops, which disrupt IP address allocation on local networks.
Bleeping Computer first spotted the updated Patch Tuesday documentation, where Microsoft warns that “the DHCP Server service might intermittently stop responding after installing this security update,” potentially affecting client IP renewal.
One Reddit user took to the subreddit r/sysadmin to describe the issue (via Neowin). The user notes, “Immediately after applying KB5061010, the DHCP server would fail after 30 seconds. Had to uninstall the update and reboot to fix it.”
Other commenters expressed frustration over recurring issues in recent updates. One user wrote, “The number of patches in recent times that are causing issues in server environments is too high.”
Microsoft confirms a fix is underway and should arrive within “the coming days.” In the meantime, rebooting the server can temporarily restore DHCP service. This isn’t the only hiccup from this month’s updates. Known issues with Noto fonts causing blurry CJK text were already flagged.
What should admins do now?
- Monitor the DHCP Server closely on affected servers.
- Plan for a server reboot if DHCP fails.
- Watch for Microsoft’s promised fix in the days ahead.
- Set test systems to defer updates briefly until the issue is resolved.
