Meta Buys Much-Hyped AI Startup, Manus, In A Deal More Than $2 Billion

Meta appears to be serious about where it’s heading with artificial intelligence (AI). The tech giant has officially acquired Manus, a Singapore-based AI startup that made headlines earlier this year and quickly became talk of the Silicon Valley. That happened right after a demo video went viral, showcasing that its AI agents are capable of screening job candidates, planning vacations, and analyzing stock portfolios.

The startup initially also claimed that its AI system outperforms OpenAI’s Deep Research. In short, the hype around Manus is undeniable. Although, both companies have confirmed the dea, they didn’t mention the money involved. But, thanks to an exclusive report by The Wall Street Journal, we now know that Meta has agreed to acquire Manus for more than $2 billion. Zuckerberg’s company is reportedly matching the valuation the startup was seeking for its next funding round.

For Meta, which has already committed nearly $60 billion toward AI infrastructure, Manus stands out as an AI product that is not only advanced but also profitable.

Despite early skepticism around its aggressive subscription pricing, ranging from $39 to $199 per month, Manus says it has converted millions of users and surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue. That figures likely played a key role in Meta’s decision to move forward with the deal.

Meta has confirmed that Manus will continue operating independently for now. As part if the deal, Manus’ AI agents will be gradually integrated into Meta’s apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta has officially confirmed that Manus will cut ties with Chinese investors and fully exit the Chinese market once the transaction is completed.
