Fortnite Brings Chaos to the Island With a Massive South Park Event

Earlier today, Fortnite servers were down for several hours due to the latest update. The maintenance is over, and update 39.20 is now live, and it delivers one of the most unexpected crossovers yet with a full South Park takeover.

According to MP1st, the update appears as patch 1.000.208 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and 1.000.028 on older console builds. The update introduces new content, map changes, weapons, and a limited-time mode, marking one of the largest themed events of the season.

South Park: Born in Chaos Event Details

Update 39.20 launches the South Park: Born in Chaos event, which runs from January 9 through February 5, 2026. Players can jump into quests, earn themed rewards, and explore a redesigned section of the island inspired by the long-running animated series.

Epic Games added playable versions of Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and Butters, along with South Park-themed loot and cosmetics. A brand-new Cartmanland point of interest now replaces Wonkeeland, offering themed visuals, loot spawns, and event-specific challenges.

Players can unlock multiple South Park items through the free Born in Chaos Pass. The pass does not require V-Bucks and instead relies entirely on completing in-game quests.

New Items, Weapons, and Modes

Update 39.20 introduces several new gameplay mechanics. The Stick of Truth acts as a storm-control item, while Cheesy Poofs work as a new consumable. Kenny’s Respawn Token gives players a second chance after elimination, staying true to the character’s recurring gag.

The update also adds new combat tools, including the Flex SMG and Stealth Splash, a throwable item that grants temporary cloaking. For squad-focused players, Epic rolled out Quints, a limited-time five-player Battle Royale mode that shakes up standard team dynamics.

Map Changes and Ongoing Popularity

The island also sees seasonal changes, with Winterfest and snow-covered regions removed. New POI features and terrain updates now set the stage for the next phase of Chapter content.
