We are officially in 2026 now, but looking back from the Xbox point of view, a lot happened last year. If we have to speak in terms of console sales, at least in the UK, Microsoft would like to forget last year. However, 2025 was good for gamers, as Xbox brought in some amazing titles to its portfolio last year. The momentum looks solid, with Forza Horizon and Fable likely to come this year.

Speaking of games, new data posted by @matpiscatella on Bluesky, cited from Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker (via Windows Central), reveals the most‑played games on PlayStation and Xbox in the United States for 2025. Interestingly, the chart looks a lot like the one we saw in 2024.

On Xbox, there was a slight reshuffle. Fortnite topped the most-played games, followed by Call of Duty. Here’s a close look at the chart:

  • Fortnite
  • Call of Duty
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Roblox
  • Minecraft

Speaking of PlayStation, Fortnite not only kept its crown at the top of the charts, but it also did so with the same order as in 2024:

The above rankings suggest the strong hold of the aforementioned franchises in the US. Fortnite and Call of Duty continue to appeal to the masses, while long-running titles like GTA V, Roblox, and Minecraft keep players coming back, all thanks to regular updates, live-service elements, and multiplayer features that stretched well beyond their original release windows.

It’s not just annual blockbusters or new IPs driving time played; many of these titles are years old, yet still pull in millions of active players. It’ll be interesting to see what 2026 has in store for these franchises and titles.

A complete report of Circana US video game market results for December and the full 2025 year is expected to drop on January 22, so keep an eye on it. So, which of the games did you play the most this year on Xbox or PlayStation? We’d love to hear your choices in the comments below.
