Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 & Warzone Season 2 Roadmap Reveals Blackout-Inspired Battle Royale Mode Among Major Updates
Call of Duty fans are getting an early look at what’s coming next. Activision has officially revealed the roadmap for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone Season 2, detailing new maps, modes, weapons, events, and cosmetic content. While the roadmap is packed with updates, one announcement has made fans excited.
Warzone is getting a Blackout-inspired battle royale mode
A brand-new battle royale mode is coming to Warzone later this season. The mode is set to land with the mid-season update and will take place on the upcoming Avalon map. What makes it interesting is how different it sounds from Warzone’s current formula.

According to Treyarch and Raven Software, the new mode has been built from the ground up. More importantly, it takes clear inspiration from Blackout, the original battle royale experience that launched with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 back in 2018.
Unlike modern Warzone matches, which revolve around custom loadouts and calling them in mid-game, this new mode leans toward a more traditional setup. Players will drop into the map and loot weapons and gear directly from the environment, relying on what they find rather than pre-built loadouts.
That should induce more unpredictability into each match, something longtime fans of Blackout often praise. Every drop, fight, and rotation could feel different, depending on what players manage to scavenge early on.
Details are limited, but more is coming soon
As of now, the mode’s official name hasn’t been revealed, and specific gameplay mechanics remain under wraps. Activision says more details will be shared closer to the mid-season launch. Also, it’s worth noting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is included with Xbox Game Pass on both Xbox and PC. Players will need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass to access it, and the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere with cross-progression.
For now, Warzone fans will have to wait. But if this new mode delivers on its Blackout inspiration, Season 2 could feel very different. If you are willing to read every bit of the details mentiobed in the massive roadmap, check out the official announcement post.
