NVIDIA Reportedly Returning to Laptop CPUs With Arm N1 Chips in 2026

As RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 Ti prices continue to surge, NVIDIA is reportedly preparing a major return to the consumer PC processor market.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, NVIDIA is developing laptop-focused processors that could power Windows devices from Dell and Lenovo as early as 2026, with supply chain sources suggesting an initial launch may happen even sooner.

This move marks a strategic expansion beyond discrete GPUs and into full laptop silicon platforms.

NVIDIA–MediaTek Arm SoC Collaboration

One of the most significant efforts involves a collaboration between NVIDIA and MediaTek to build an Arm-based system-on-a-chip.

The new SoC is expected to integrate CPU cores alongside NVIDIA GPU technology on a single package. This unified design aims to deliver improved power efficiency, better battery life, and optimized performance for thin and light Windows laptops.

The chips are widely rumored to fall under the N1 or N1X laptop-focused series, signaling a dedicated push into premium mobile computing.

Dell and Lenovo Preparing NVIDIA-Powered Laptops

Sources indicate that both Dell and Lenovo are already developing systems based on the NVIDIA–MediaTek Arm architecture.

Shipping manifests have reportedly revealed Dell N1 laptops, which are expected to target the premium market, potentially under the XPS lineup. Meanwhile, Lenovo has allegedly listed N1 series SKUs on official pages, with some configurations possibly landing under the Legion brand for gaming-focused models.

Early reports suggest that the first PCs powered by these new NVIDIA processors could arrive in the first half of the year.

A Broader Strategy Shift for NVIDIA

NVIDIA’s renewed interest in consumer CPUs comes at a pivotal time. The company has recently sold off its remaining ARM shares, even as it doubles down on Arm-based chip development through partnerships.

At the same time, NVIDIA’s CEO has promised groundbreaking silicon to be showcased at the upcoming NVIDIA GTC event, hinting at broader ambitions beyond AI accelerators and data center GPUs.

If successful, NVIDIA’s return to laptop processors could reshape the Windows ecosystem and intensify competition in the Arm-based PC market.
