Windows 11 May Finally Let Users Remove Unwanted Quick Actions Again

At the start of the year, Microsoft promised that it would move away from the AI-everywhere strategy in Windows 11 and start focusing more on fixing the OS from the ground up, suggesting that user feedback will finally be taken care of more often. Well, if you have been waiting for Microsoft to bring back the Quick Settings customization feature, your wish might finally come true.

Windows 11 could finally bring back the ability to customize Quick Settings

The new feature has reportedly surfaced in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7965 (KB5079385) that Microsoft released in the Dev Channel last Friday. As spotted by popular Windows tipster phantomofearth on X, the hidden interface changes suggest Microsoft is experimenting with a new way to manage Quick Actions.

In earlier versions of Windows, users were allowed to control which toggles appeared inside the Action Center, through which users could add or remove features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, airplane mode, and Night Light based on personal preference.

To catch you up, Microsoft pulled that feature in previous Windows 11 updates. The Quick Settings panel eventually became a fixed, scrollable list where users could rearrange controls but not remove them entirely.

Now, new preview builds suggest that the limitation may not last much longer. Hidden changes inside Build 26300.7965 indicate that certain Quick Actions could soon become removable again, though the functionality does not fully work yet.

If the changes remain in development, Windows 11’s Quick Settings panel could become far more customizable again in future updates. For now, the feature remains hidden in preview builds, leaving its final form unclear.

Energy Saver’s quick setting could also get a dedicated submenu

PhantomOfEarth, in a separate post on X, also suggests that Microsoft is working on a new submenu inside the Quick Settings control center. The updated Energy Saver quick setting has reportedly been turned into a split toggle with a currently blank subpage. The tipster hints that the section will likely display energy-saving recommendations in a future Windows 11 preview build.

Speaking of preview builds, late last week, Microsoft also released Windows 11 Canary Update KB5079381, which adds voice typing for File Explorer and improves storage cleanup. Meanwhile, Beta and Dev updates, KB5079382 and KB5079385, fix File Explorer’s annoying white flash issue.
