Windows 11 Beta & Dev Update, KB5079382 & KB5079385, Fixes File Explorer's Annoying White Flash Issue

Windows 11 KB 5073095

Microsoft ended the week with three new Insider Preview builds. Among them, one each landed in the Dev and Beta Channel for Windows 11 Insiders. The Beta channel received Insider Preview Build 26220.7961 under KB5079382, whereas the Dev channel gets Preview Build 26300.7965 under KB5079385. Both Preview Builds bring several improvements across the system, while File Explorer received a fixes for a few headache. The update also includes improvements to sharing tools and changes to administrator protections.

File Explorer now supports voice typing when renaming files. Users can press Windows key + H and dictate the file name instead of typing it manually. Thankfully, Microsoft has also fixed File Explorer’s annoying white flash issue, which gave headache to users when new windows or tabs was set to launch to This PC. The same issue sometimes appeared for many while resizing interface elements. Both issues have now been addressed.

Besides File Explorer fixes, Microsoft has also improved the process for unblocking files downloaded from the internet, which should make it easier to preview them directly inside File Explorer. Apart from that, Microsoft is re-enabling Administrator Protection. For those unaware, it is a feature designed to limit free-floating admin rights by using just-in-time privileges. The option remains turned off by default and can be enabled through policy settings.

The update also makes changes to the drag tray in Windows sharing, introducing a smaller peek view to reduce accidental triggers when interacting near the top of the screen.
