Microsoft has released an updated version of the Media Creation Tool (MCT) shortly after the March Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 11, allowing users to download the latest system build for clean installations.

According to Neowin, the updated Media Creation Tool now downloads Windows 11 version 25H2 (build 26200.8037), which includes the March 2026 Patch Tuesday improvements and security fixes.

Media Creation Tool now installs Windows 11 25H2

The Media Creation Tool is Microsoft’s official utility used to create bootable Windows installation media or download Windows ISO files. It is commonly used when performing a clean installation, reinstalling Windows, or upgrading a system manually.

Microsoft typically updates the tool every month following Patch Tuesday. These updates ensure that users installing Windows from scratch receive the most recent build instead of needing to download additional updates afterward.

With the latest refresh, the Media Creation Tool now pulls Windows 11 version 25H2 build 26200.8037, which contains the March 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes and improvements.

Tool version remains unchanged

Although the downloaded Windows build has been updated, the Media Creation Tool application itself has not received a new version number.

The change only affects the Windows image that the tool downloads and prepares for installation.

Users who prefer manual downloads can still obtain Windows 11 ISO files directly from Microsoft’s website. However, writing these ISO files to a bootable USB drive often requires third-party tools such as Rufus.

March updates also bring additional Windows improvements

The March Patch Tuesday update introduced several notable changes across Windows 11 builds.

One of the most significant additions is native support for Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) on Windows 11 for ARM devices. This change allows administrators using ARM-based PCs to manage Windows Server roles and infrastructure without relying on x64 systems.

Microsoft also released a Release Preview update that introduces improvements to the Settings app and pen input. The update further enhances Narrator accessibility features and improves the reliability of Smart App Control.

Together, these updates ensure that new Windows installations created with the Media Creation Tool already include the latest fixes and features from Microsoft’s March update cycle.
