Two Senior Xbox Leaders Leave Microsoft Amid Ongoing Company Changes
Microsoft continues to undergo notable leadership changes, with two long-time Xbox executives now confirmed to be leaving the company. The updates come shortly after recent shifts involving Phil Spencer’s departure and the arrival of Copilot leader Mustafa Suleyman.
According to reports from Pure Xbox, both Lori Wright and Haiyan Zhang are stepping down after spending nearly a decade each at Microsoft, marking another moment of transition within the company’s gaming division.
Lori Wright Departs After Years Leading Xbox Partnerships
Lori Wright, who served as Corporate Vice President of Partnerships, Business Development & Marketing at Xbox, played a central role in shaping the platform’s global strategy. Her responsibilities included overseeing platform partnerships, content licensing, developer programs, and expanding Xbox’s market reach.
Wright shared a message on LinkedIn reflecting on her time at Microsoft, expressing gratitude to colleagues and partners she worked with throughout her tenure. Her departure appears to be on positive terms, with no indication of internal issues.
Haiyan Zhang Leaves Xbox Gaming AI Role for Netflix
Haiyan Zhang, who held the role of General Manager & Partner of Gaming AI at Microsoft Gaming, is also moving on. During her time at Xbox, Zhang contributed across multiple areas, including serving as Chief of Staff and Innovation Director at Xbox Game Studios.
In her statement, Zhang described leaving Microsoft as “the hardest decision of my life,” highlighting the emotional weight of the transition. She is set to join Netflix, where she will focus on advancing the company’s gaming initiatives.
Alongside her new role, Zhang plans to continue her nonprofit work through the Thriven Foundation, which focuses on using AI for social impact.
Departures Reflect Personal Moves, Not Internal Issues
Both exits appear to be amicable and driven by personal career decisions rather than broader organizational challenges. Microsoft has not indicated any restructuring tied to these departures.
The news adds to a growing list of recent developments within Microsoft, as the company continues to evolve its leadership across gaming and AI divisions.
More Changes Across Microsoft
Beyond these departures, Microsoft has also recently brought in talent from Cove AI, signaling ongoing investment in artificial intelligence capabilities. At the same time, reports suggest potential legal tensions between Microsoft and OpenAI related to an AWS deal, pointing to broader strategic shifts across the company’s ecosystem.
As Microsoft balances leadership transitions with new hires and partnerships, the company’s direction in gaming and AI remains closely watched.
