OpenAI Closes Record-Breaking $122 Billion Funding Round, Says "Building an AI Superapp"
OpenAI has closed its latest funding round with $122 billion in committed capital, giving the company a post-money valuation of $852 billion. The capital will support expansion across consumer, enterprise, and developer AI platforms, reinforcing OpenAI’s position as a core infrastructure provider for intelligent systems.
SoftBank and a16z lead a $122 billion funding round
The round was led by SoftBank and a16z, with participation from strategic partners Amazon, NVIDIA, and Microsoft. Other investors include D.E. Shaw Ventures, TPG, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Sequoia Capital, and over $3 billion raised from individual investors via bank channels. OpenAI will also be added to several ARK Invest exchange-traded funds, widening global access to the company’s growth.
OpenAI highlighted that consumer adoption of ChatGPT has now reached more than 900 million weekly active users and 50 million subscribers. Enterprise adoption is growing rapidly, currently accounting for over 40% of revenue, and GPT-5.4 is powering record engagement across agentic workflows. Codex usage has surged fivefold in three months, with APIs processing over 15 billion tokens per minute.
The company says the funding will support compute infrastructure expansion, with partnerships spanning NVIDIA, AMD, Microsoft, AWS, Oracle, Google Cloud, and SoftBank. This infrastructure underpins the next-generation models that will feed OpenAI’s unified “AI superapp,” combining ChatGPT, Codex, browsing, and agentic capabilities into a single system for consumers and enterprises alike.
With revenue currently at $2 billion per month, OpenAI claims it is growing faster than the tech giants of the Internet and mobile eras, including Alphabet and Meta. The company sees this round as a way to scale intelligence globally and drive the next wave of productivity, innovation, and economic impact.
