OpenNOW is an Alternative, Customizable Open-Source Desktop App for GeForce NOW Users

Crossing our fingers that NVIDIA won’t take it down

GeForce NOW users are getting a new way to play their favorite games, all thanks to a GitHub project known as OpenNOW. First spotted by folks at Videocardz, OpenNOW is an open-source desktop client built entirely by the community.

OpenNOW lets you stream GeForce NOW games your way

The most interesting part of this app is that it allows players to browse the catalog, launch sessions, and improve their streams without relying on the official NVIDIA client.

According to OpenNOW’s GitHub page, the desktop client runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and uses Electron, React, and TypeScript for its core processes. You can grab the latest builds from here.

Developers of the app say that the project focuses on transparency, which gives contributors insight into all technical aspects while offering players a more customizable experience.

If you are keen to try this desktop client, you must be wondering what features are being offered, right? Well, let me tell you, there are plenty. But keep in mind that you must use your own GeForce NOW account to play games. The OpenNOW app apparently includes catalog browsing, session management, and library-aware launching.

You can further make changes to stream settings like codec, resolution, FPS, aspect ratio, and region, plus track real-time diagnostics such as latency, packet loss, and render stats. Notably, OpenNOW also supports built-in screenshots, recording, microphone controls, and controller-friendly navigation, all while storing settings locally and avoiding telemetry.

All that said, developers note that OpenNOW is still under active development. So, you should brace yourselves for occasional bugs and platform-specific issues, but the developers are actively updating the project.
