If you were hoping your Game Pass subscription would give access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 at launch, XBOX has another reminder for you. The company has started sending notifications directly to Game Pass subscribers, making it clear that this year’s Call of Duty won’t be playable through the service on day one.

The message, first spotted by Insider Gaming, tells subscribers that “Game Pass availability starts Holiday 2027” and adds that players wanting to jump in at launch will need to purchase the game separately. The notification also includes a button that takes users straight to the Microsoft Store listing for Modern Warfare 4.

In case you’re unaware, at the time of cutting Game Pass prices, Microsoft confirmed that starting with Modern Warfare 4, future Call of Duty entries would no longer launch day one on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Rather, new releases will join the subscription service during the following holiday season, roughly a year after their retail debut.

That also means Game Pass subscribers who don’t buy Modern Warfare 4 separately will effectively stay one entry behind the annual Call of Duty release cycle. Unless Microsoft changes course in the future, this delayed release model is expected to apply to upcoming titles as well.

As of now, XBOX hasn’t announced any additional exceptions to the new policy. The latest notification simply serves as another reminder that Modern Warfare 4 will require a standalone purchase if players want access on launch day, with its Game Pass debut currently scheduled for Holiday 2027.
