Fresh Off XBOX Exit, Compulsion Games is Already Looking for New Partners
Compulsion Games isn’t wasting any time after breaking away from Xbox. Just days after confirming its return to independent ownership, the award-winning South of Midnight developer has already begun searching for new partners, hinting that the studio is eager to jump into fresh collaborations across the games and entertainment industry.
Compulsion Games is already looking toward its next project
The announcement follows Xbox’s sweeping restructuring earlier this month, a move that saw thousands of jobs cut across Microsoft’s gaming business. While several studios were shut down or heavily impacted, Compulsion Games negotiated an agreement to separate from Xbox and continue operating independently while keeping ownership of its biggest franchises, including Contrast, We Happy Few, and South of Midnight.
As spotted by VGC, the Montreal-based studio has published a message on LinkedIn inviting developers, publishers, and entertainment companies to work alongside its team. In the post, Compulsion said, “With Compulsion Games returning to its roots as an independent developer, we are expanding opportunities to collaborate with studios across the games and entertainment industry.”
The developer also highlighted the pedigree of the team behind South of Midnight, noting that partners can “leverage the talent and creativity of the award-winning team” responsible for a title that earned recognition from BAFTA, the Peabody Awards, the Canadian Game Awards, and numerous Game of the Year lists. Compulsion added, “We are excited to support the development of memorable experiences that engage and entertain players around the world.”
The studio also reaffirmed its creative direction, saying, “As an independent studio, we’re excited to continue building the distinctive games that define Compulsion while taking the next steps in our journey.” With its independence secured and its award-winning IP intact, Compulsion now appears focused on turning that momentum into its next collaboration.
