Microsoft Pauses Windows 11 KB5101650 July 2026 Update for Affected Dell PCs Due to Intel Driver Issue
Microsoft has hit brakes on Windows 11 July 2026 Patch Tuesday update for a small group of Dell PCs before things could get worse. Rather than pushing KB5101650 to every eligible system, the company is holding it back from affected devices after discovering an Intel driver compatibility issue that could trigger serious performance problems.
Windows 11 KB5101650 paused on affected Dell PCs
The issue traces back to the optional Windows 11 preview update KB5095093, released on June 23, 2026. According to Microsoft, a limited number of Dell devices running a specific Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant driver may show a yellow warning icon in Device Manager after installing that preview build.
More importantly, the problem goes beyond a warning. In the Windows Update Release Health dashboard, Microsoft notes that affected systems can experience unexpected shutdowns, reduced performance, excessive heat generation, and faster battery drain. Dell reportedly identified the incompatibility during testing, linking it to the new Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface introduced with KB5095093.
Rather than risking a wider rollout, Microsoft has placed a compatibility hold on those systems. That means the July 14 Windows 11 security update KB5101650 for versions 24H2 and 25H2 will not be offered to impacted Dell devices until a fix is ready.
Microsoft and Dell are already working on a fix
Speaking of the resolution, Microsoft says it is working alongside Dell and Intel to address the compatibility issue. The company plans to release a solution for affected hardware in the coming days before lifting the safeguard hold.
For everyone else, KB5101650 continues rolling out normally. If your Dell PC has not been offered the July 2026 security update yet, it may simply be because Windows Update detected the affected Intel driver and temporarily blocked the installation to avoid the known issues.
