Meta's New Facebook Verified Badge Helps Spot Real People, Here's How

AI-generated profiles are becoming harder to spot every day. Meta thinks it has a solution. The company has announced Facebook Verified, a free verification system designed to show when there’s a real person behind a Facebook profile.
Unlike Meta Verified, this badge doesn’t require a subscription. Instead, users complete a quick selfie verification process.

Meta wants Facebook users to know who’s real

Facebook Verified works by asking eligible users to record a short video selfie. Meta compares it with existing profile photos before issuing the verification badge.

The feature is available to eligible Facebook users aged 18 or older who are in good standing with the platform’s Community Standards. Pages and Professional Mode accounts aren’t supported.

Speaking of visibility, the badge will first appear across Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and user profiles. Meta says it will eventually expand to posts appearing in the Facebook Feed.

The badge isn’t an endorsement

Meta says the badge simply confirms a profile belongs to a real person who completed verification. It doesn’t guarantee the user is trustworthy or endorsed by Facebook.

That said, the company believes the feature will help people feel more confident when buying through Marketplace, matching on Dating, or interacting inside Groups.

Facebook Verified is rolling out gradually in select markets before expanding to more countries. As AI-generated content continues to grow, Meta says proving someone is human has become more important than ever.
