WhatsApp Gets Smarter Polls, @all Mentions, and Faster Group Chats in Latest Update

In the last few weeks, Meta has been aggressively rolling out new WhatsApp features. Just last week, the company announced web calling. Now, it is back with even more upgrades. This time, the updates cater to group chat users.

Meta says the latest update introduces smarter polls, a new @all mention feature, and an easier way to create group chats from existing conversations. The goal is simple. Make busy group chats easier to manage without relying on third-party apps or endless scrolling.

The biggest improvement arrives with WhatsApp Polls. Users can now set an expiration time for polls, automatically ending voting once the deadline arrives. Meta is also introducing anonymous voting, allowing participants to hide their identities while casting votes. On top of that, poll creators can edit questions for up to 15 minutes after publishing them to fix mistakes or clarify wording.

Speaking of group chats, WhatsApp is finally getting an @all mention feature. Instead of tagging every participant individually, users can now notify the entire group with a single mention. The feature is designed for important announcements such as meeting changes, school updates, office notices, or urgent reminders.

Meta says @all notifications will still reach users even if the group itself is muted. However, people can disable @all notifications separately through WhatsApp’s notification settings. In larger groups with more than 32 members, only administrators can use the feature.

Another addition focuses on creating smaller conversations. Users can now instantly create a new group from an existing chat without manually selecting every participant again. This should make it easier to organize side discussions, event planning, or project-specific conversations while keeping the main group uncluttered.

That being said, these changes build on several group-focused updates Meta introduced earlier this year. Those included group message history, member tags, and event reminders. The company now appears focused on making WhatsApp the preferred platform for larger communities and collaborative conversations.
