Microsoft Wants You to Use Copilot to Handle Back-to-School Planning

Microsoft wants Copilot to handle some of that annoying back-to-school planning. In last week’s Tech Community blogpost, the company has highlighted several ways Copilot can keep school information, reminders, and research together.

Copilot can keep all those school details in one place

Users can attach a school handbook, calendar, or supplies list inside Copilot Chat. From there, they can ask questions without digging through old emails or documents. You could ask about an upcoming half-day or check when a sports registration deadline arrives.

Copilot can also use class notes and syllabuses to create practice quizzes. Rather than asking Copilot random questions, users can give it the actual school material first.

Copilot Tasks is arguably the more interesting addition. It can handle one-time or recurring jobs, including reminders and weekly checklists. A parent could ask Copilot to prepare a school-week checklist every Sunday evening. It can also track schedule changes and upcoming items.

Tasks can access connected email, calendars, or cloud storage when users authorize those services. Sensitive actions still require approval before Copilot proceeds. Microsoft also suggests using Copilot for research. That could mean comparing after-school programs or checking laptops against school requirements.

That being said, Microsoft recommends starting small. Copilot Tasks is still in preview, so its features and limits may change. Also, the company has specifically noted that the aforementioned changes are applicable with Microsoft Copilot signed in with a personal Microsoft account.
