Microsoft Edge 152 Out With Smarter Scam Protection, Apple Account Sign-in, and Other Major Browser Changes

Microsoft Edge stable version 152.0.4191.53 is officially rolling out, and this update packs more than an usual release. With the latest stable version of Edge, Microsoft has added better scam protection, Apple account sign-in support, improved credential tools, and fresh Copilot controls. The release also starts a major change to how websites handle the “unload” event.

Microsoft Edge 152 brings several notable changes

The biggest change is Microsoft’s ongoing unload event deprecation. Edge 152 and 153 will prevent unload handlers from firing on 60% of page loads by default.

That rollout has jumped to 80% with Edge 154 before reaching 100% in Edge 155. Microsoft says developers should move toward newer page lifecycle APIs instead. Edge is also now officially on a two-week major release cadence. That means users and administrators can expect major Edge versions to arrive more frequently.

Security gets another useful upgrade. Edge can now automatically unsubscribe users from notifications originating from sites blocked by Defender SmartScreen as scams, phishing pages, or malware.

The browser also adds Apple account sign-in on Windows and macOS. Meanwhile, the address-bar key icon is becoming more useful, letting users view, copy, and manage saved credentials directly.

Copilot and enterprise controls get another push

Microsoft is also expanding administrator controls around Copilot. A new Copilot Cowork policy lets organizations control whether Cowork can take actions such as creating tabs, taking screenshots, and interacting with webpages.

Another policy now controls whether Copilot can transcribe video content. These changes show Microsoft continuing to push Edge toward more tightly managed AI features.

That being said, not every feature is sticking around. Drop has officially been retired in Edge 152, while real-time video translation is being gradually retired.

Microsoft has also introduced policies covering background updates, WebSocket back/forward caching, and other enterprise behavior.
