Microsoft Is Bringing Grok Into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

We’re still waiting for the Grok 4.7 model, but Microsoft is already expanding the AI models available in Microsoft 365 Copilot by adding Grok models from SpaceXAI.

Grok is rolling out in Copilot for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, giving Microsoft 365 customers another model option. Microsoft is initially offering it through the Frontier program as a limited preview.

Grok preview starts in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Frontier users can select Grok for productivity tasks in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Microsoft says it will use the preview to collect feedback and study how customers use Grok before deciding whether to expand availability.

The company has not specified which Grok model powers the preview.

Admins must enable Grok first

IT administrators must explicitly enable Grok models before employees can access them.

Microsoft has also added SpaceXAI to its Online Services Subprocessor List because SpaceXAI may process some customer data when users select Grok.

Administrators will retain visibility and control over data processed by SpaceXAI in supported Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences.

This means organizations may need to review Grok separately from AI models already enabled in their Copilot environments.

Grok preview excludes Europe and the UK

Microsoft will not offer Grok during the preview to Frontier customers in the European Union, European Free Trade Association countries, or the United Kingdom.

Microsoft has not said when it could make Grok available in those regions.

Microsoft reviews third-party models before Copilot integration

Microsoft says it subjects third-party AI models to testing, safety validation, and Responsible AI reviews before adding them to Copilot.

The Grok rollout continues Microsoft’s broader push to expand model choice across Microsoft 365 Copilot.
