Sega Brings Major Games to XBOX Disc-to-Digital

Sega is adding support for XBOX’s upcoming disc-to-digital feature, making it the second major publisher to support the system after Ubisoft.

The feature lets players scan a supported XBOX game disc and add the title to their digital library, allowing disc-free play on compatible XBOX platforms. Microsoft currently limits the feature to XBOX Insiders as testing continues.

Most major Sega games already support disc-to-digital

A large part of Sega’s catalog has already been verified for the feature, including Sonic Frontiers, Persona titles, most Yakuza and Like a Dragon games, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Unicorn Overlord.

Several titles still lack support, including Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sonic x Shadow Generations, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Valkyria Chronicles 4, and Sonic Origins Plus.

That list may change. Previous XBOX updates have added support for games that initially failed compatibility checks, so more Sega titles could become eligible as Microsoft expands testing.

Sega follows Ubisoft into XBOX disc to digital

Sega becomes the second major publisher to support the feature after Ubisoft added support earlier in September.

Square Enix and Bandai Namco remain among the major publishers that have not yet added support.

The feature could prove especially useful on XBOX hardware without a disc drive, allowing players to convert eligible physical games into digital access.

Microsoft has also been preparing for this type of system for years, and it laid the groundwork for XBOX disc-to-digital 15 years ago.
