OpenAI Expands Agents API with Computer Use and AWS Support at DevDay 2026

OpenAI is expanding its developer platform at DevDay 2026 with a new Decisions API, computer-use support for the Agents API and a way to run OpenAI agents entirely inside Amazon Web Services. The company says the updated Agents API brings Codex capabilities such as multi-agent workflows, tool search, tool calling and context compaction into developers’ own applications. OpenAI manages the underlying infrastructure while developers control the application and execution environment.

OpenAI wants developers to build agents that can use computers

The biggest addition is computer-use support for the Agents API. This allows developers to create agents capable of interacting with software to complete tasks rather than simply returning text.

The Agents API can run agents in a managed sandbox where they can execute code, edit files, connect to MCP servers, and produce artifacts. OpenAI is also introducing the Decisions API in limited preview. It focuses Luna’s intelligence on a defined set of questions with finite answers. Developers can provide context using text or images and receive decisions that can be used to classify content, route requests, or determine an agent’s next action.

OpenAI agents can now run inside AWS

OpenAI has also worked with Amazon on Bedrock Managed Agents, bringing the core capabilities of the Agents API into AWS. Developers can use the service to build OpenAI-powered agents that run entirely within AWS and connect with AWS resources.

The Agents API is available through the API, while OpenAI says its computer-use and related capabilities are also available through Codex and ChatGPT Work for Pro 500 and Enterprise users.

OpenAI has also been rolling out several major updates across its products. Codex recently received a major upgrade with cloud environments, voice CLI, and code review, while Dots introduces always-on AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra. The company also released GPT-6.1 Sol, offering near-Astra performance at a much lower price.
