ChatGPT is getting a new virtual try-on feature that lets users see how clothing and accessories could look on them using their own photos.

OpenAI is adding the feature to ChatGPT as part of its expanding shopping experience, according to the latest ChatGPT release notes.

ChatGPT can now virtually try on clothes

Supported products will display a Try on button. Users can upload an existing selfie or take a new photo, and ChatGPT will generate an image showing the selected product on them.

Users do not have to start from a supported product listing. They can also upload a screenshot or image of clothing or accessories and ask ChatGPT to virtually try the item on.

The feature appears to use ChatGPT Images 2.5, which improves reference-photo preservation, lighting, textures, and image editing.

That should help ChatGPT keep the user’s appearance more consistent while adjusting clothing, accessories, lighting, and other visual details.

Reference photos can be reused

ChatGPT can save uploaded reference photos for future virtual try-ons, reducing the need to upload the same image each time.

Users can change or delete saved reference photos from the Personalization section in ChatGPT Settings.

Favorites adds product bookmarking

OpenAI is also introducing Favorites, giving users a way to bookmark products they find through ChatGPT.

Saved products can be added to the ChatGPT Library and organized into folders. Users can also keep generated virtual try-on images alongside their saved shopping activity.

The additions push ChatGPT’s existing shopping tools further into fashion discovery by combining product search, saved items, and AI-generated previews in one place.

In other OpenAI news, ChatGPT Plugins just received a major upgrade with app-like interfaces and automations.

OpenAI has also launched Dots, always-on AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra, and released GPT-6.1 Sol with near-Astra performance.
