Microsoft has updated the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool to include the latest October 2026 security updates, allowing users to create installation media with the latest security fixes already included.

The tool now downloads Windows 11 26H2 with KB5127648 (Build 26300.9711), eliminating the need to install the October security update separately after a fresh installation.

Interestingly, while Microsoft has refreshed the Windows installation image, the Media Creation Tool itself remains at version 10.0.26100.7019.

How to download Windows 11 26H2 with the latest updates

Users can download the updated Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s official Windows 11 download page.

The tool automatically retrieves the latest Windows 11 installation files from Microsoft’s servers and lets users create a bootable USB drive for a clean installation.

Users who already run Windows 11 can also upgrade through Windows Update without creating installation media.

October 2026 updates also bring known issues

Microsoft’s October 2026 Patch Tuesday updates addressed numerous security vulnerabilities, including three zero-day flaws.

However, the updates have also introduced problems for some Windows 11 users.

Microsoft confirmed that KB5127648 can prevent users from enabling Smart App Control, leaving the option grayed out in Windows Security.

The company also acknowledged Wi-Fi and VPN connectivity issues affecting KB5127648 and KB5126646.

Microsoft has shared workarounds for these problems, although users creating fresh installation media should remain aware of the known issues.

The refreshed Media Creation Tool gives users a more up-to-date starting point when installing or reinstalling Windows 11 26H2.
