Microsoft Teams is getting a redesigned GitHub integration that allows developers to use GitHub Copilot to investigate issues and prepare code fixes without leaving Teams. Microsoft is also preparing simplified Copilot meeting controls and default meeting templates for November 2026.

The update combines GitHub notifications and Copilot capabilities in a single app, while the previous GitHub integration will retire on November 16.

GitHub Copilot Can Now Fix Issues Directly From Microsoft Teams

According to Microsoft’s announcement, the redesigned GitHub app brings repository notifications and GitHub Copilot into the same Teams workflow.

Developers can receive GitHub issue notifications in Teams channels and mention GitHub Copilot to investigate reported problems. They can also ask Copilot to implement fixes and prepare pull requests directly from those conversations.

Once Copilot proposes changes, developers can review and test the code before deciding whether to merge it into their repositories.

The new GitHub app for Microsoft Teams is already available. Microsoft plans to deprecate and retire the previous integration on November 16, 2026, making the redesigned app its replacement.

Microsoft is also working on other improvements to the platform. The company recently announced that Teams will use AI to detect phishing and impersonation attempts, while a new efficiency mode promises to make Teams 20% faster.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has confirmed that it will remove Copilot Studio from Teams in 2027.
