Microsoft Is Removing Copilot Studio From Teams in 2027

Microsoft is retiring the Copilot Studio app in Microsoft Teams, with the complete removal scheduled for February 2027. Users who manage AI agents through Teams will need to move to the Copilot Studio web app.

According to Microsoft 365 Message Center MC1511056, Microsoft notified administrators about the change on October 16, 2026. The company is gradually removing agent management capabilities from the Teams app, requiring users to create, edit, publish, and manage agents through the web interface instead.

Copilot Studio retirement starts in January 2027

Microsoft has already discontinued the ability to create new agents through the Copilot Studio Teams app. Starting in January 2027, users will also lose the ability to edit existing agents within Teams.

By February 2027, Microsoft will remove the Copilot Studio app from Teams entirely, completing the transition to the web-based experience.

The change primarily affects organizations that use classic chatbot-style agents and IT teams responsible for maintaining those workflows.

Administrators need to prepare for the transition

Microsoft recommends that administrators notify affected users about the retirement and direct them to the Copilot Studio web app.

Organizations should also update internal documentation, training materials, and support instructions that reference the Teams app. Microsoft expects customers to complete the transition before the February 2027 deadline.

The retirement specifically concerns the Copilot Studio app used to manage agents in Teams, rather than the broader Copilot experience in Microsoft Teams.

The announcement follows other changes to Microsoft’s AI products. The company recently reversed its plan to remove Copilot from the Teams chat list and introduced built-in Office editing capabilities in its Copilot super app.

Microsoft has also expanded AI capabilities across its productivity services, including Copilot-powered search in OneDrive and SharePoint.
