Windows 11 KB5127936 Adds New Restore Summary Feature for Easier PC Migration
Microsoft has introduced a new Restore Summary feature in Windows 11 26H2, making it easier to check which settings and apps were restored after switching to a new PC.
The feature arrives with the October 2026 preview update, KB5127936, as part of Microsoft’s Windows settings backup and restore experience.
Windows 11 now shows what was restored to your new PC
The new Restore Summary appears after users restore a backup profile on a new Windows device. It provides an overview of the Windows settings successfully restored and the Microsoft Store apps included in the restore results.
Users can review this information directly through Windows Settings instead of manually checking which preferences and applications carried over from their previous PC.
Microsoft says the feature makes the restoration process more transparent, helping users confirm that their settings and apps have transferred as expected.
Microsoft improves backup and restore for organizations
The feature also benefits organizations that regularly replace or upgrade employee devices.
Windows settings backup and restore helps preserve user preferences and Microsoft Store app configurations when employees move to new computers.
IT administrators can manage the backup and restore experience through Microsoft Intune, Policy Configuration Service Provider (CSP), and Group Policy.
Microsoft has published detailed documentation covering the new Restore Summary feature and its configuration options.
The change comes as Microsoft makes Windows 11 26H2 available to all eligible PCs. The company has also updated Windows Defender security for Windows 11 26H2 installation images.
