RAMageddon Pushes NVIDIA RTX 5090 Price to a 370% Hike Over Launch MSRP
RAMageddon is getting increasingly ugly for PC gamers, and NVIDIA’s flagship GeForce RTX 5090 is a perfect example of it. The said graphics card has reportedly reached $9,400 in the US, putting it far beyond its original price. The latest figures suggest that buying a high-end gaming GPU is becoming increasingly difficult.
NVIDIA RTX 5090 prices have surged far beyond launch MSRP
According to TechSpot, the RTX 5090’s lowest available US price reached $9,400 in October 2026 (via Wccftech). That is roughly 370% above its $1,999 launch MSRP. The card also became 36% more expensive than September, when its reported price stood at $6,890. The situation extends beyond the US. TechSpot’s survey of ten markets found that the RTX 5090’s normalized average price reached $7,240. That puts it approximately 262% above its original MSRP, highlighting just how far retail prices have drifted from NVIDIA‘s launch pricing.
Memory shortages and rising component costs are contributing to the problem, but they do not explain everything. The latest findings show that several graphics cards have become substantially more expensive, with the RTX 5080 also facing significant price inflation. The wider market reportedly saw GPU prices climb 11% in October.
Meanwhile, supply concerns fuel uncertainty. Previous reports have suggested that RTX 5090 production was being cut off. However, NVIDIA has denied that the card has been discontinued, but admitted that supply is constrained.
If you are planning a high-end PC upgrade, waiting may be worth considering if current prices remain this inflated. However, it is unclear when supply will improve or whether prices will return to more reasonable levels.
