If you have been wondering whether Nintendo can improve one of gaming’s most beloved adventures, early reviews have an answer. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is winning over critics ahead of its November 5 launch. Its upgraded presentation and modernized gameplay are receiving plenty of praise.

Zelda Ocarina of Time reviews highlight a remarkable remake

The early review scores are looking impressive. According to GamesRadar’s review, the remake currently holds a 96 Metacritic score based on 80 reviews. Every single reviews are positive, with 39 outlets awarding a perfect 100 score.

Meanwhile, Famitsu has given the game 37/40, with individual scores of 9, 9, 9, and 10. The Japanese publication praised its improved camera, controls, and visual presentation. Folks at TechRadar awarded the game a 5/5 stars and have praised the game for its refreshed soundtrack, redesigned puzzles, and quality-of-life improvements. However, the publication noted that the reduced difficulty might disappoint players looking for a tougher adventure.

What critics love and where the remake falls short

Tom’s Guide also praised the remake’s 4K visuals, orchestral soundtrack, and modern controls. The news outlet appreciated gyro aiming and quicker equipment selection. Z-targeting, however, remains one of the reported annoyances. In addition, The Guardian highlighted the emotional impact of revisiting Hyrule. It also praised expanded dialogue and fully voiced cutscenes, although some character changes may divide longtime fans.

In short, critics appreciate how Nintendo modernizes the original without abandoning its identity. Better movement, camera controls, redesigned environments, and orchestral music make the adventure feel fresh. That said, some reviewers wanted greater difficulty and more ambitious changes. With a 96 Metacritic score, the remake is already making a strong impression.

All that said, it will be interesting to see whether the game maintain that momentum once more players experience Hyrule on November 5.
