ROG XG Station 3 Is ASUS’ Latest Answer to Laptop Gaming Without Compromising Portability
ASUS has officially unveiled the ROG XG Station 3, an external graphics dock featuring Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. It supports powerful desktop GPUs, including NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series, while keeping compatible laptops portable.
ROG XG Station 3 brings 80Gbps Thunderbolt 5 connectivity
One of the biggest highlights of the ROG XG Station 3 is its Thunderbolt 5 connection, which delivers up to 80Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth. It also supports Thunderbolt 5 Bandwidth Boost, which can increase bandwidth to 120Gbps for video-heavy workloads.

On the graphics side, the dock supports NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series, RTX PRO 6000 Series, AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series, and Intel Arc graphics cards. This means users can install a desktop GPU and upgrade their laptop’s graphics capabilities whenever they need more power.
Interestingly, ASUS has opted for an open-frame design rather than a traditional enclosed graphics dock. This gives the installed graphics card unobstructed airflow while making it a visible part of the setup.
There is also a GC-HPWR connector for compatible BTF graphics cards. ASUS specifically mentions the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5080 BTF OC Edition and ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 BTF Edition. These cards can draw power without a visible PCIe power cable, resulting in a cleaner-looking setup.
A graphics dock that doubles as a connectivity hub
The ROG XG Station 3 isn’t just about graphics performance. Its primary Thunderbolt 5 connection supports up to 140W USB Power Delivery, allowing compatible laptops to receive power through the same cable.
The dock also includes a Thunderbolt 5 downstream port with up to 36W power delivery. Users can connect up to three 4K displays through daisy chaining, alongside two front-facing USB-C ports offering 10Gbps transfer speeds.
Not to forget, ASUS has included Aura Sync lighting for synchronizing RGB effects with compatible hardware. As of now, ASUS hasn’t announced pricing or retail availability.
