The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Gets Official Release Date & First Gameplay Look Trailer

Nintendo has finally showcased The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time properly, with the Switch 2 remake now getting an official release date. After revealing the remake back in June with only a short teaser, Nintendo used today’s 40th Anniversary Direct to show a much longer look at the game and confirm that it will launch on November 5, 2026.

The new trailer gives a much better idea of what Nintendo is doing with the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic. The remake has completely overhauled visuals, refreshed sound, smoother movement, a reworked camera, and fully voiced cutscenes, while still keeping the original adventure at its core.

The footage also shows some noticeable gameplay changes. Link can now jump using a button rather than automatically jumping from ledges, while a sprint option should make travelling around Hyrule Field less cumbersome. The remake also adds a continuously moving day and night cycle, meaning time can pass even while Link is inside towns.

Nintendo is also adding some features that go beyond a visual upgrade. Players can use the Switch 2 microphone to hum Ocarina melodies, while the Zelda Notes app can help track progress, provide hints, and offer an Ocarina mode. There is even a daily quiz with more than 2,000 questions.

Ocarina of Time is shaping up to be more than a simple remake

Nintendo has also confirmed that the physical game’s first print run will feature textured foil cover art, giving collectors another reason to grab a physical copy. The remake remains exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.

Back in June, Nintendo only confirmed that the classic would return in 2026, leaving plenty of questions around how extensive the remake would be. Today’s footage answers some of them, and it appears Nintendo is aiming for something considerably more ambitious than simply giving the N64 game a new coat of paint.
