teams live events limits extended

If you’re running a large organization and use Microsoft Teams on a daily basis for meetings and working sessions, you’ll be pleased to find out that the app can now be used with extended usage limits until end-June 2021.

This is the third time Microsoft increases temporary usage limits for Teams, the previous ones being announced back in April and June 2020.

Temporary usage limits for live events still available

teams to support 20,000 attendees until mid-2021

In an attempt to respond to the current teleworking demands, and also to resist competition against Zoom, Microsoft has been continuously improving their collaboration app.

Ever since the epidemic breakout, Teams has seen a steady increase in its daily user base, with a notable boom in the first week of the stay-at-home rules. According to recent figures, Teams is being used by over 100 million people on a daily basis, while Zoom – by over 300 million. So it’s only natural that Microsoft is trying to stay attractive and ease communication and collaboration across all its services.

As a result, live events hosted in Teams, Yammer or Stream will continue within the following limits:

  • Up to 250 participants in Teams Meetings
  • Up to 20,000 attendees in live events through Teams, Stream, and Yammer
  • Up to 100,000 attendees in Stream when planned through live events assistance program
  • On-demand recordings for unlimited numbers of viewers for those who cannot attend
  • 50 simultaneous events hosted across a tenant
  • 16 hours event broadcast time

It must be mentioned that interactive meetings are available for up to 1,000 participants, while the rest of the participants (up to 20,000) will enjoy just a view-only experience.

Also, event hosts must have the Advanced Communications option added to their Microsoft 365 or Office 365 plan.

With such great news for large companies, one surely has to be on the lookout for app improvements. The latest one allows users to transfer calls from PC to mobile.
