Key notes
- Instagram PWA will be available in Microsoft Store soon to be downloaded by users.
- Currently, the Instagram app for Windows 10 has not been updated since 2018 making the PWA upgrade welcomed.
- Thanks to the PWA Instagram will most likely be updated more frequently and users will benefit more from this change.
- Changes in the Instagram app after the PWA update can be easily seen, completely transform their user experience.
Instagram, one of the most used communications tools has been updated in Microsoft Store, and it’s been converted to a full PWA (Progressive Web App).
In other words, the app can now be installed via the Chromium Edge installation process and next to Twitter this will likely be the biggest PWA on the Windows platform.
The great thing about Instagram going full PWA is that this will allow for the app to be updated more frequently since a single update can be pushed across multiple platforms.
Instagram goes full PWA
Considering that the Instagram app on Windows 10 has not been updated since July 2018 this is great news for users.
After this update, more than 1.16 billion Instagram users will benefit from a richer desktop experience thanks to the nice additions.
For example, the users will see the same color branded version of the Instagram icon as if they would in the case of using Microsoft Edge.
Additionally, e new ellipsis can be seen at the top left of the app. Through it users can access additional settings that otherwise could be found on Edge.
If we are to look at Twitters PWA progress then we can have an idea on what to expect next regarding Instagram. Gaining some additional notification settings or shortened timelines could be in the mix.
At this moment the Instagram update is still rolling out to devices and it can be possible that is not present for all facets of Microsoft app store.
We would love to know how you feel about Instagram going full PWA, so don’t hesitate to leave us a message in the comments section below.
