At Build 2017 in Seattle, everyone got the chance to see how Microsoft is using AI to enhance its productivity suite, a good example being the Presentation Translator plugin for PowerPoint.
Build 2017 gave fans a chance to meet Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, who made it very clear during his introductory keynote that artificial intelligence will bring some extreme changes for lots of Microsoft products, including Office and Windows.
Introducing Microsoft’s PowerPoint Presentation Translator
The new Presentation Translator plugin for Powerpoint is a Microsoft Garage project that uses Microsoft’s Translation APIs to translate content from any Powerpoint presentation in 10 languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. The plugin is able to provide translated subtitles in real-time and can also translate the full text of a presentation while preserving its original formatting.
Program Manager Yina Arenas presented an amazing demo of the program during Build 2017. One of the most interesting parts of the technology is its ability to share a unique link attendees can use in order to get translations in real-time. This can also be achieved on mobile devices.

The program can only be found available for early access on the Windows version of Powerpoint. You can register now if you want to make sure that you’ll find yourself among the first ones to get to test it.
We’re all looking forward to use the plugin for presentations to a multilingual public and Microsoft made a great move with this addition. If you were previously impressed by Skype’s real-time translation feature, you’ll likely be wowed by this new addition.
