A fully native Xbox handheld console is in the works, industry insider claims

Recently, a new claim revealed that a fully native Xbox handheld console is in the works. After the success of devices like Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch, the possibility of similar devices from Microsoft has always been there.

Xbox is reportedly working on a new fully native handheld console

Industry insider Jez Corden hinted that the gaming wing of Microsoft is working on a fully native handheld console. He shared the news about the rumored hardware on the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast

Answering a question from a Superchat, the host, Rand al Thor 19, said he has heard a lot of talk about the handheld console recently. He further inquired Corden about the registration of a new Xbox DevKit (XDK) console in South Korea, as seen in the tweet below.

Speaking more on the same, Corden said:

I know that they’ve got handheld prototypes right now and these are new handheld prototypes.

Corden pointed out in the podcast that prototypes don’t necessarily mean they will make it to the market. He further stressed that it would be insane of Microsoft not to pursue this. Later, he firmly mentioned that the rumored prototypes are not a cloud handheld, but a fully native Xbox handheld

It is worth mentioning that previous rumors suggested the next-gen Xbox console could resemble the design of a Nintendo Switch. Moreover, we don’t know the exact launch or announcement date of the rumored native Xbox handheld console for now.

Xbox has been hinting the new hardware quite often

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming and Xbox, said the new console will be unique and powerful. Talking on the Official Xbox Podcast last month, the Xbox president, Sarah Bond, said Xbox will launch a new console this holiday season.

So, it is safe to assume that the rumored fully native Xbox handheld console could be the actual thing.
