While Copilot can be useful, many users aren’t too happy with Microsoft’s policy to force it on its users.
If you’re not a fan of Copilot, we have some bad news, because it seems that there’s a bug in it that can cause it to show your metadata, so let’s dive deeper and see how this issue affects you.
Copilot bug can reveal your Windows metadata and installed apps
We already know that Microsoft can collect your personal information in Windows, and it seems that Copilot has access to some of this data as well.
According to the user Pirat Nation on X, Copilot will output your personal data when it encounters a bug.
It seems that this bug was caused by using the following prompt:

This will cause a problem with Copilot, and it will lead it to output your Windows metadata. This data includes information such as the OS version, preferred language and the list of all installed applications.
Do keep in mind that this is just a claim by a single person, so take it with a grain of salt, since the exact steps to replicate this issue aren’t known.
Many are upset due to this, but this doesn’t come as a surprise to us as Copilot will get the ability to read all your files.
Unfortunately, the inner workings of Copilot remain covered in a veil of mystery, and we can’t confirm that Copilot doesn’t have your consent to access this information.
In other news, Microsoft has paused public testing of Copilot features, so it might take a while before we get our hands on some new features.
